Buy This Not That: Duo Fiber Blush Brush

MAC 139S Brush vs Ecotools Sheer Finish Blush Brush

MAC 139S Brush vs Ecotools Sheer Finish Blush Brush comparison, review, dupe

I have been putting these two brushes to the test for the past year and while I do think one is better, I personally don’t prefer to use either for blush application.  I always feel like no matter how lightly I try to apply blush, they both disturb the foundation underneath.  I initially wanted to try these brushes out to see if they more easily diffused my more pigmented blushes, but I’ve found that I just don’t like this style of brush. Despite my personal preference, they do apply blush nicely and with more pigmented blushes I do think they diffuse the pigment more easily than a traditional blush brush.  If I wasn’t attempting to review these items, I’m really not sure if I would have noticed my foundation having less coverage on the cheeks after applying.

The Ecotools brush was much softer than the MAC brush even before the first wash.  I have found over time that some brushes do need to be broken in before they start to perform well, and the MAC 139S is one of them.  After the first wash, the 139S was still very stiff and it took a few more washes for it to soften up, but it never gets as soft as the Ecotools brush.  Before the MAC brush is broken in, it doesn’t blend out blush as well as the Ecotools brush.  However after those first few washes, it does start to perform on par with the Ecotools brush, but the experience is not as pleasant since the Ecotools brush is softer.  The only downside I’ve found with the Ecotools is that it does shed occasionally during washing.  I also noticed that it is in the sale section of the Ecotools website, so I’m not sure if it may be on its way to being phased out.

So if you are looking into these brushes, I’d recommend buying the Ecotools Sheer Finish Blush Brush, not the MAC 139S.  Despite the fact that they are in much different price ranges (Ecotools $5.59 & MAC $42.00) I found the Ecotools brush to outperform MAC’s version.

I do also want to add that if you didn’t have both to compare, I think you would likely still feel like you overpaid for the MAC brush.  Overall the MAC brush is well constructed and after it is broken in, it does soften up, but it seems to me that for $42.00 you shouldn’t have to wait and hope the brush gets better.

Have you given either of these brushes a try?  What are your thoughts?
